Trump's tariff war has the potential to restructure the global order, and on the other hand, it is also pregnated with the possibility of producing tragedies for the emerging middle class all around the world and for the people living on the margins. The resulting tariff wars are reshaping comparative advantages, disrupting supply chains, and generating uncertainty across international markets. For India, this evolving landscape presents both opportunities and challenges?ranging from recalibrated trade negotiations with the US to the need for strategic alignment amid rising protectionism and inflationary pressures worldwide. These were the views expressed by the experts in a roundtable discussion on "Trump's Tariff Hike: The Big Picture & Implications for India.," organized by the Centre for Advanced Studies in Social Science and Management (CASSM) at CU-IDC Chandigarh Campus.

To what extent can the nuanced tariff war enhance equity in the redistribution of income rather than dictating reciprocal tariffs amongst the rich, developing and poor countries? And what political implications shall it have for the emerging middle class and marginalized groups, rural poor and working population?
