DW BUREAU / Chandigarh Cold wave and sporadic rains in North India could not hamper the spirits of residents of Chandigarh to participate in the Daily World Chandigarh Cyclothon 2021 at Sukhna Lake here on Sunday. Enthusiastic participants displayed true sportsman spirit as they started assembling at the Sukhna Lake much before daybreak, many of them around two hours ahead of the start of the event. "The passion of these spirited runners had to be seen to be believed," said Gurpreet Singh of the Daily World Group. On being asked about the event, Gaurav, a participant appreciated the Cyclothon and said, "I always look forward to such events. I always prefer cycling over car rides whenever possible and appreciate the initiative of public bike sharing in Chandigarh as the city roads are apt for cycling. It will have a positive impact on the health and overall well being of the city residents." The Cyclothon was organised by the Daily World newspaper at the time when the UT Administration and Municipal Corporation is promoting cycling in a big way. The public bike-sharing project has already been launched by the Municipal Corporation . Chandigarh is also participating in India's Cycle4Change Challenge, an initiative of the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs, to inspire and support the cities in implementing cycling=friendly initiatives.
