Over 150 new buses expected to arrive by month-end: Sharma

category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma said that the state government is endeavouring to make the insurance of drivers and conductors on the lines of the police department; from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Apart from this, he directed the officials to expedite all the pending works of the department and recruitment of 1190 conductors through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam. Mool Chand Sharma was presiding over a review meeting with the officials of the Transport Department here today. The officials apprised the minister about various works of the department with detailed discussion on their status. The Transport Minister said that 125 mini buses have been inducted and 50 more HVAC buses will arrive by the end of April. Till March, 404 buses have been sent to various depots and 150 more buses are expected to arrive by the end of this month, he said, adding that soon electric buses will also be procured. During the meeting, it was apprised that the work of e-ticketing has been completed in six depots and four sub-depots of the department, while it will be completed soon in the remaining depots. Also, bus passes are being issued to senior citizens in the age group of 60 to 65 years. Besides, a letter has been issued to all the general managers regarding the introduction of overtime. The officials also apprised the Transport Minister that eight different posts in the department are being brought under online transfer policy and the process for all these posts have been completed. For this option priority is being sought which will be completed by April 26. Mool Chand Sharma also instructed the officials to provide and ensure basic facilities to the people at the bus stands. There should be a proper facility of drinking water at every bus stand and maintenance work of RO water purifiers should be done on time, he added. Principal Secretary, Transport Department Navdeep Singh Virk, Director Ajay Singh Tomar along with other officials of the department were present in the meeting. (editor dailyworld.in)
