Union Minister for Energy, Housing, and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal visited the Bandhwari Waste Management Plant on the Gurugram-Faridabad Road on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness on Diwali. During his inspection of the plant, he instructed officials to accelerate waste management efforts under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Union Minister stated that both the Central and State Governments are committed to addressing the garbage issue in Gurugram and Faridabad. He highlighted the rapid efforts being made to dispose of legacy waste at the Bandhwari site, with the goal of achieving a garbage-free plant within the designated timeframe. He mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL) to establish a plant that will convert waste into charcoal. In the next six months, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram will transfer 15 acres of land to the company for this purpose.
He instructed NVVNL representatives to inform corporation officials about which areas of the site need to be cleared, ensuring that the land can be prepared promptly. In addition, he emphasized the importance of starting machinery installation as soon as the land is cleared.
The Union Minister urged the corporation officials to maintain continuous efforts for the disposal of legacy waste and to expedite their work. He also sought information from representatives of both agencies involved in the legacy waste disposal process. The officials briefed the Union Minister on both the previous and current status of their efforts.
On this occasion, Haryana's Industry, Environment, Forest and Wildlife Minister Rao Narbir Singh, Urban Local Bodies, Revenue and Disaster Management and Civil Aviation Minister Vipul Goyal, and other officials were present.
