Webinar on augmented reality at Pbi Varsity

Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University in collaboration with the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) organized an online webinar on "Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality".
The event was organized under the aegis of MoU between NIELIT-Ropar and Punjabi University. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Arvind inaugurated the event and briefly introduced the concept of Augmented Reality as a technology that enhances the real world by affixing layers of digital elements onto it. He also appreciated the efforts of the Department of Computer Science, Computer Engineering and various other departments in organizing strong computing activities. Dr. Deepak Wasan, Additional Director, NIELIT Ropar and Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Joint Director NIELIT Ropar, shared the concept of Augmented and Virtual Reality with the participants. In his address, Dr. Deepak Wasan spoke about NIELIT and told the audience that the institute's motto is to serve the people digitally. He emphasized that collaborative research is the key to move forward in this field.
Joint Director Dr. Jyoti Sharma said that augmented reality and virtual reality will hugely impact various day to day activities such as travelling, real estate, healthcare and education. With the advent of technology, the devices supporting augmented and virtual reality will be easily available in the near future.
She spoke about Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, various applications of AR and VR, tools and software used in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. She told how the imaginary world feels like the real world by using Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Dr. Sukhjeet Kaur Ranade, Head of the Department, while giving a formal welcome address mentioned the need for such webinars in the field of Computer Science and assured that in future more such webinars will be organised by the department.
