DW BUREAU The Social Welfare Committee of the Chandigarh Administration led by its Chairman Satya Pal Jain, Ex-MP visited the GRID (Government Rehabilitation Centre for Intellectual Disabilities) in Sector 31, Chandigarh on Friday and interacted with the students, teachers and the parents. Jain later told that this institute is attending to about 450 students and about 150 more are in the waiting list for getting education. He said that in spite of the fact that these students suffer from Intellectual disabilities, the staff works very hard to impart education to them like tailoring, cooking, painting, skating, singing and dancing etc. to enable these students to live life like normal children. The committee went to each and every classroom as well as the clinic rooms and invited suggestions from the stakeholders. Jain said that it was brought to the notice of the committee that there is an urgent need of one hostel each for boys & girls, one Auditorium and more facilities at the centre to enable it to admit the waiting 150 students also and reservation for such students in the Government jobs. Jain said that the committee will examine all the issues and will submit its report to the Chandigarh Administration next week. The Director of the institute and other members of the staff were also present during the visit. (editor@dailyworld.in)
