category Regional, patiala, , tags Regional, patiala, , DW BUREAU PATIALA As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations, the Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Steel have planned a series of events in collaboration with JNARDDC, Nagpur and National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) along with Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI). The two ministries have planned 75 programmes to promote scrap recycling and waste utilization which include 40 plant visits, 27 awareness conferences, 7 academic activities, and one culmination conference by July 2023. The first scrap recycling and waste utilisation drive is going to take place in Ludhiana on April 6 and April 7. There will be an industrial visit in Ludhiana and Mandi Gobindgarh steel cluster. Along with that a conference on Sustainable and Circular Bharat: Towards Zero Waste in Metal Processing will take place in Ludhiana. Dr Anupam Agnihotri, Director, Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre, (JNARDDC), said metals are a key material in the transition from linear economy to a circular economy as most of the metals are highly recyclable and can be an excellent substitute for metal produced from virgin mineral resources without compromising on basic properties. Dr Agnihotri said this mission for sustainable growth shall be accompanied with all-out efforts for developing and deploying breakthrough technologies in the metal recycling sector. It is high time for the recycling industry and waste generators to deliver innovative solutions through R D collaborations. (editor dailyworld.in)
