RBU hosts webinar on water pollution

Rayat Bahra University organized a webinar on `Water Pollution: Challenges and Remediation' under Namami Gange Programme, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.
'Namami Gange Programme', is an Integrated Conservation Mission, approved as 'Flagship Programme' by the Union government in June 2014 with budget outlay of Rs.20,000 Crore to accomplish the twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of National River Ganga.
Prof. (Dr.) SK Mehta, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, enlightened the young minds about the significance of water conservation. He discussed the various sources of water pollution, impact on human health and environment and suggested remedial measures.
He emphasized on the need to understand the disastrous impact of synthetic pollutants and chemicals in the water bodies which are being added by anthropogenic activities. He stressed on the need to go for the biological treatment of the wastewater which is highly effective in reducing water pollution and eco-friendly.
Prof. (Dr.) Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University, endorsed the suggestions given by Prof. (Dr.) SK Mehta in preventing water pollution. He insisted on the need for participation of citizens at individual level to curb this issue. He also emphasized that organizing such a series would be able to deliberate on some important issues related to water conservation and come up with some actionable points.
Prof. (Dr.) Simerjit Kaur Shergill, Dean of Students Welfare, Rayat Bahra University, spoke about the Namami gange Programme that envisages pollution abatement conservation and rejuvenation of River Ganga and its tributaries. This programme not only is focussed on wastewater treatment but also on preserving the ecology and biodiversity of River Ganga.
Prof. Neena Mehta, Dr. Preeti Rawat, Dr. Rashmi, Dr. Harsimran, Dr. Vandna were present during the interactive session after the talk. Queries of the participants were well taken and answered by the expert.
