DW BUREAU / PATIALA Punjab Chief Vigilance Commissioner Justice Mehtab Singh Gill has sought various details from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) with the Independent Power Producers (IPP) for conducting the enquiry into the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) signed during the year 2007 to 2017. It may be mentioned that Punjab Chief Minister had announced that the government would soon get all the cases of alleged corruption and malpractices including the contentious power purchase agreements (PPAs) that took place during the decade-long SAD-BJP regime probed by the vigilance department. He said the probe would be carried out to fix the responsibility of all those involved in "derailing" the state's economy by "looting" the public exchequer for their "personal vested interests". The CVC has asked the Additional Chief Secretary (Power) to appoint a senior PSPCL officer to assist the office of chief vigilance commissioner. The commission has also sought the difference of power of purchase of the amount from different grids in the years 2007-2017, especially during paddy season in Punjab. The commission has also asked for a write up by December 9 pertaining to non-transparency, financial impropriety, and lopsided terms of agreements. The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has welcomed the decision of the Punjab government regarding revisiting PPAs and vigilance inquiry in the whole case. (editor@dailyworld.in)
