PSPCL raids for power theft yield Rs 71 lakh fine

The aggressive campaign launched by the Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) against the menace of theft of electricity in the state as per the instructions of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited CMD A Venu Prasad and director distribution Er DPS Grewal is achieving great success with excellent results.
The PSPCL chief engineer enforcement Er Jasvir Singh Bhullar disclosed that various enforcement teams from Jalandhar, Bathinda and Patiala circles of different zones raided on the premises of 426 consumers of different categories of consumers in past two days and imposed a fine of Rs 71.40 lakh for theft and other violations.
He said that enforcement teams in Jalandhar city successfully raided 254 commercial establishments premises which included dhabas, restaurants and malls and a sum of Rs 34.55 lakh had been imposed fine to the erring consumers on account of theft and other
violations.
While giving details he said that three cases of electricity theft, 8 UUE cases, one reading concealment case of 22863 units was found in Jalandhar city. He also said that in one major case six shops in a mall were found using electricity from a domestic category meter and load of 65 KW was found installed against sanctioned load of 6 KW, a sum of Rs 20 lakh has been imposed as plenty to the erring consumer.
He further added that five meters were sent to ME lab for further investigation and analysis. He said that enforcement teams raided the premises of 105 consumers of several colonies, builders and housing projects in Mohali and DeraBassi areas. He said that four cases of electricity theft, 6 cases of UE and three cases of UUE were found by the raiding teams.
He also said that a penalty of Rs. 24.5 lakh had been imposed on the violators. During checking in the Jalalabad town of Malwa area, enforcement teams from Bathinda, checked a total 67 connections and imposed a sum of Rs 12.35 lakh as fine to erring consumers.
