category Regional, chandigarh , , tags Regional, chandigarh , , DW BUREAU Chandigarh In an act of bravery, an official of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) saved the lives of two youth who were drowning in the Pong Dam Lake at Bathu-ki-Lari near Guglara in Jawali subdivision of Kangra district on June 18. Assistant Sub Inspector Naresh Kumar who is posted at the NIA, Chandigarh, along with his family members had gone to lake area where about half a dozen youngsters on motorcycles had come to take bath. Sources said four of them slipped deeper into the Pong Lake. When the drowning youth raised alarm, ASI Naresh Kumar risking his own life jumped into the Lake and saved two persons, namely Manjeet Singh and Shuvam, residents of Dhaulatpur, Una, Himachal Pradesh. Unfortunately, two others, Amit Kumar (26) and his cousin Rajat (23), also residents of Dhaulatpur in Una could not be saved as they drowned in the lake. After rescuing the two youths, he informed the 112 helpline about the incident, following ghwich Jawali SDM Mahinder Pratap Singh and DSP Manoj Kumar reached the incident site along with a police team. An NDRF team from Nurpur also reached the spot and launched the search operation. Senior NIA officials have praised the bravery act of their official, saying such act of bravery deserves the highest possible praise. (editor dailyworld.in)
