Lok Sabha Member Preneet Kaur kick starting the construction of Water Treatment Plant as an integral part of 24x7 surface water supply project worth about Rs 503 crore in Patiala, on Monday

Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Preneet Kaur today formally kick started the construction work of 115 MLD water treatment plant as an integral part of Rs. 503 crore, Surface based 24x7 water supply project which has been considered as the lifeline of Patiala city, at village Ablowal.
She said that with the starting of this project, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had fulfilled every promise made to the people of Patiala. This project would include Water Treatment Plant of 115 ML per day, a clear water reservoir of 17.28 ML besides Storage and Sedimentation Tank of 236 ML at village Ablowal.
Preneet Kaur, who remained active to get this project live, further said that this multi crore water supply project approved by the Chief Minister would alleviate the drinking water crisis of the city, for which the people of the city deserved congratulations too.
She said that around 5 lakh population of the city would get 24 hours uninterrupted clean water supply through this project. The work of this important project would be completed within the stipulated time by Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Larsen & Toubro Company.
The MP said that the entire project has been designed, keeping in view the water needs of the people of the city for the next 30 years. The tender process for the first phase of the project to draw water from the Bhakra canal was completed in October 2020. She said that at present about 134 underground borewells were running in the city but every year the ground water was depleting day by day and the residents of the city could face the problem of drinking water.
Preneet Kaur said that under this important Amrut scheme project, Storage and Sedimentation Tank of 236 million liters of water, water purification plant (WTP) with capacity of 115 million liters per day, 17.25 million liters of clear water reservoir including the laying of 312 km of new pipelines in the city, besides12 tanks and 16 underground tanks.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Sanjeev Sharma Bittu thanked the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Lok Sabha Member Preneet Kaur and said that this was the biggest project ever given by the Chief Minister to the people of Patiala.
