Dr Harinder Singh Bedi, Director of Cardiac Sciences,- sounded an urgent alarm about India s potential to having the misfortune in leading in coronary artery diseases globally, attributing this worrying trend to the evolving lifestyle. He said The hearts of Punjabis should not just tick, they should beat strongly . This year, the theme for World Heart Day is Use Heart, Know Heart, emphasizing the role of individuals in preventing CVD and improving overall heart health. Dr Harinder Singh Bedi underscored the vital importance of heart disease prevention, advocating a balanced diet and avoiding trans fats. In addressing the younger generation, he emphasized the need to reduce phone usage, shun smoking and alcohol, adopt a healthy diet, incorporate short breaks into work routines, engage in 30 minutes of daily morning and evening exercise, and to get regular checkups . He said that chest pain or tightness, often mistaken for gas or indigestion, could indicate underlying heart problems and should not be ignored. Dr Harsimranjit Singh, a cardiologist at Park Hospital, emphasized the significance of World Heart Day against the backdrop of changing dietary habits that endanger the heart. He said that heart diseases, once primarily affecting older individuals, now afflict the youth, making a healthy diet the primary weapon in the fight against this growing concern.
