DW BUREAU Gursharandeep Singh Grewal, SSP Khanna, has said that the police had started a special campaign against gangsters, drug trafficking and mischievous elements. He said during this campaign the Khanna police had achieved success by arresting Jugraj Singh, resident of Mohanpur and Harmanpreet Singh, resident of Saidnagar Mundian and a case under Arms Act had been registered at Doraha police station. Giving details of the sequence of events he said that the police party had set up a naka at GT road Doraha and apprehended two persons namely Jugraj Singh and Harmanpreet Singh. On their frisking two pistols .315 bore along with eight live cartridges were recovered from Jugraj Singh and one pistol .315 bore along with five live cartridges were recovered from Harmanpreet Singh. A case under Arms Act had been registered against them, he said. He further said that during investigation it had come to the light that Jugraj Singh was a professional and notorious criminal in his area and was wanted in eight cases of robbery, Arms Act and snatching in various states. Jugraj Singh came out of Tihar jail on parole but did not go back, he said. The police officer further said Jugraj Singh had links with a person namely Balwinder Singh @Chacha from Hardiwar and they had allegedly robbed Rs 1,40,000 from Khatima road Puranpur UP from some person. Jugraj Singh along with Balwinder Singh @Chacha did recce at Chandigarh to rob a bank in March and also had a plan to do the same at Delhi. He said Balwinder Singh @ Chacha sent them to Punjab with illegal weapons for execution of the above said plan, so they were going to the Amritsar side with illegal weapons for shelter (as Jugraj Singh's native village was Ajnala Amritsar).
