Khalsa College celebrates intl mother language day

The Department of Punjabi of the local Khalsa College organized various competitions on the special occasion of International Mother Language Day.
Slogan writing competition, cultural quiz competition and mother tongue related song and music competition were organized on the occasion. The students participated in these competitions in large numbers.
The students and the entire staff also pledged to work for the betterment of mother tongue Punjabi. In the slogan writing competition, various lines and poems related to the mother tongue were beautifully engraved on the canvas by the students. In this competition Kamalpreet Singh, Shivam, Ranjodh Singh and Jaspreet Kaur won first, second, third and Encouragement Awards.
The song and music competition was enthusiastically participated by students from various departments. In this competition Sarabjit Singh, Harpreet Singh, Gurlal Singh won first, second and third place respectively. Ankit Sharma and Manpreet Kaur were awarded with encouragement prizes.
In view of International Mother Language Day, teams were formed by different departments of the college to participate in cultural quiz competitions. The final competition of these teams was held on the stage today in which Team Ravi of Science Department won first place, Team Chenab of Computer Science Department won second place and Team Sutlej of Arts Department won third place.
Congratulating Punjabi Sahitya Sabha and Punjabi Department on this occasion Principal Dr Dharminder Singh Ubha said that mother tongue is a language which is instinctively learned by everyone without the help of grammar whereas knowledge of grammar is essential for acquiring knowledge of other languages. "We can only progress globally if we impart knowledge to our children in their mother tongue," he said.
