DW BUREAU / Chandigarh As part of the campaign to crack down on criminals in the State, Haryana Police has arrested 334 most-wanted criminals carrying cash rewards in year 2022. Besides, 11,463 proclaimed offenders (POs) and bail jumpers were also taken into police custody. Disclosing this here today, the Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana, Sh. P.K. Agrawal said that all these arrested criminals were not only accused in heinous crimes like murder, attempt to murder, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, loot, dacoity, but also carried a reward ranging between Rs 5000 and above Rs 1 lakh on their arrest. The arrest of these offenders resulted in the resolution of hundreds of cases of heinous crimes and prevented several crimes as well. A sustained drive against lawbreakers and bad elements throughout the year also led to the arrest of 6,552 POs and 4,911 bail jumpers. Out of these, 951 POs and 912 bail jumpers were apprehended by the State Crime Branch and the remaining 5,601 POs and 3,999 bail jumpers were arrested by field units. On average, 546 POs and 410 bail jumpers were arrested every month. Our teams have identified these offenders by gathering data from courts and other inputs/sources to keep an effective tab on their movement and activities. Among the arrested offenders, many of them were evading their arrest for a long time. Maximum arrests were made in Faridabad district with 43 most wanted criminals taken into police custody which was followed by 40 in Mahendergrah, 26 in Sonepat, 24 in Rohtak, 21 each in Gurugram and Kurukshera and 28 in Palwal district. As many as 24.80 lakh reward money had been distributed to the informers who provided credible information leading to the arrest of these big fishes of crime world. (editor@dailyworld.in)
