DW BUREAU / Chandigarh
A delegation of FOSWAC (Federation of sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh) led by the chairman Baljinder Singh Bittu along with
General Secretary J S Gogia, Secretary, RS Gill, Chief Spokesperson Pankaj Gupta, Pardip Chopra and Amardeep Singh had a meeting with the Adviser to the Administrator UT Chandigarh Many issues were discussed in the meeting and the Advisor assured the delegation to look into the issues.
The issue of regularisation of need based changes made in the houses built by CHB was also discussed
The delegation said that there are more than sixty thousand houses built by CHB where almost half of the Chandigarh population is living there. It is pertinent to mention that they are in the middle/lower class income group, therefore they were not in position to arrange or buy new houses to meet their growing needs. They made changes to accommodate the extended families over a period of time. Almost ninety percent of houses fall in this category and they have been facing the threats of notices, department action and demolition from the last two decades.
The members suggested that the solution to this problem lies by giving them one-time settlement, otherwise this issue will never end on its own. Needless to add that this is a very serious issue which needs a bold decision of administration. Removal of garbage dump from Dadumajra was also discussed. The delegation told that there have been several instances of major fire at the garbage dump. This is not only unhygienic and detrimental to health but also a majorsource of foul smell for the southern sectors. The residents are highly upset over this unresolved issue since a long .
