Members of 'FOSWAC' along with the representatives of employees' Union, of Electricity Department Chandigarh expressed resentment against the Administration's move to privatise the electricity supply in Chandigarh.
The members said, "FOSWAC and the representatives of the Union of Electricity department are the stakeholders of residents (consumers) and employees respectively. This move of privatisation is ill-conceived, unilateral without consulting the stakeholders and devoid of merit."
Blaming the administration, FOSWAC members said that they asked for objections from the stakeholders of consumers, representatives of employees or taking opinion of the "Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission" who earlier recommended the Electricity department as Corporation but did not recommend for privatisation.
"We as stakeholders feel that the supply of electricity to the various consumers at reasonable rates is the basic necessity and it is the duty of the government to fulfil this legitimate need," they said.
Members further added that Electricity department Chandigarh is relatively maintaining a good supply of electricity at reasonable rates without any gap of revenue in purchase and sale within the permissible transmitting losses. There is no reason to justify the privatisation at all.
Baljinder Singh Bittu said that the Government is hell bent to privatize the Electricity Department despite being in Hugh profit for the last many years. The Chandigarh Electricity Department is adjudged best among all the Union Territories.
