DW BUREAU / SAMRALA Workers of the Bharti Kisan Union belonging to Doaba group under the leadership of its president Sukhwinder Singh Sukha of Dayalpura protested against the erratic power supply to the paddy crop and blocked the traffic on the GT road near Kotla Samashpur and raised slogans against the Punjab government and the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). Sukhwinder Singh Sukha said villages like Bondli, Dayalpura, Gharkhana, Kotla Samashpur, Hedon, Sangatpura and Mal Majra are connected with the Ghungrali grid but supply from this grid is given only for a few hours instead of eight hours as per government's instructions. He said that transplantation of paddy started from June 10 and the PSPCL is bound to give eight hours uninterrupted power supply for paddy sowing. Due to non-availability of power supply the farmers are facing inconvenience in their fields. They warned that the dharna will not be lifted till an assurance from the PSPCL is given for eight hours supply. On getting the information Rajesh Kumar, Additional Superintending Engineer, Samrala division, deputed SDO Er Raghbir Singh to tackle the problem of the farmers. He said that a strong thunderstorm of high velocity had broken the electricity poles in this area. The supply lines were also flattened. The lines were erected again to restore power supply which took time and again due to the overloading power cut. He assured the farmers that there will be no interruptions in power supply and farmers will get eight hours power supply for paddy. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Balvir Singh Khirnian Vice-President, Darshan Singh Bondli, Vice-President, Gurjit Singh, Balvir Singh and Gurjant Singh of Dayalpura, Aman Hedon, Gabar Sangatpura, Gurjit Singh Kotla Samashpur and Jatinder Singh Malmajra.
