category Regional,, tags Regional,, DW BUREAU Dr AS Sekhon, a former Chairman of the Punjab Medical Council, and former Registrar of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, has raised serious concerns over the decision of the Punjab government to empanel doctors as daily wagers for the operation of Aam Aadmi Clinics. Dr Sekhon has warned that this decision could have a detrimental effect on Punjab s healthcare system, potentially ruining the existing infrastructure. He said the recent orders of the Punjab government have caused concern and anxiety among regular medical officers. The parallel postings of newly enlisted medical officers in old dispensaries converted into Aam Aadmi Clinics have left the previously appointed regular doctors neglected. Dr Sekhon emphasized that healthcare is not just about treating individuals but is also a curative system aimed at promoting public health. He said that the decisions being taken by the government could dismantle the state s healthcare system. Dr Sekhon suggested that instead of relying on empanelment, the government should establish Aam Aadmi Clinics as a separate programme, allowing the existing healthcare system to remain intact.
