Dr Hooda takes charge as DGP of Chandigarh

After a gap of three months, Chandigarh Police has a full-time police chief with the appointment of 1997-batch IPS officer Dr Sagar Preet Hooda as Director General of Police (DGP).
A senior officer who served in various important positions in Delhi Police, Hooda was given a ceremonial welcome at a parade in Sector 26 here and formally assumed charge at the police headquarters in Sector 9.
Speaking to the media, Hooda called it a homecoming, saying, "Chandigarh is my city and Chandigarh Police is like my parents' police?my first posting began here."
Outlining his priorities, he stressed on the implementation of the new criminal laws, calling them "revolutionary, victim-centric, and justice-oriented." He also emphasised strengthening IT systems, cyber security, and community policing.
Later, he held law-and-order review meetings at the UT Police headquarters and called on UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. He also met UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma and Home Secretary Mandeep Singh Brar.
