DC reviews situation in Rajpura after outbreak of diarrhea

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans,today, in a joint meeting with MLA Rajpura, Hardial Singh Kamboj and the concerned officials, while reviewing the situation after outbreak of diarrhea in the Dheh Basti of Mirch Mandi in Rajpura, asked the Water Supply & Sewerage Board officials to immediately install public taps there. The department was also asked to provide mobile toilets to maintain hygiene there.
The Deputy Commissioner said that although potable water was being supplied by the administration through tankers, we were also trying to provide a permanent solution to the problem.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Prince Sodhi and SMO Dr. Jagpal Inder Singh who were present in the meeting said that the situation was under control and now only 7 patients were undergoing treatment. The SMO said that out of these, four are in AP Jain Government Hospital Rajpura and three in Guru Nanak Hospital. The Deputy Commissioner also asked the doctors to ensure adequate availability of packets of ORS and chlorine tablets. The deputy commissioner said that the district administration has sent a case to the government for providing financial assistance to the families of the victims who have lost their lives due to this disease and the compensation would be sanctioned soon. He said that the government and the district administration were very serious about this problem and in order to prevent such problems from recurring, a foolproof plan was being drawn up under which a systematic development plan of the area would be prepared and implemented. Under this scheme sewerage and water supply pipes will be provided for safe drinking water and drainage.
He said that the district administration has renamed this locality as Basera-1 in Mirch Mandi, Rajpura and its phased development would be the major agenda.
Expressing satisfaction over the efforts being made by the district administration for the affected people, Hardial Singh Kamboj said that he himself was keeping a close watch on the situation. He said that he would do his best to prevent such a tragic incident from happening again and therefore he would work out a comprehensive plan for all such settlements so that the people would have access to basic amenities and a clean living environment.
Prominent among others who attended the meeting included Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Gautam Jain, SDM Rajpura Sanjeev Kumar, youth leader Nirbhai Singh Milti, Civil Surgeon Dr. Prince Sodhi, SMO Dr. Jagpal Inder Singh, District Epidemiologist Dr. Sumit Singh, Executive Engineer Sewerage and Water Supply Board, Executive Officer Rajpura Ravneet Singh.
