DW BUREAU / Chandigarh The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday morning visited the residence of AIG Ashish Kapoor in Sector 88, Mohali and took measurements of the property. The vigilance action took place in connection with an ongoing disproportionate assets (DA) case filed by the state Vigilance. Sources said that huge amount of money appeared to have been spent on the construction of the Sector 88 house belonging to AIG Kapoor and proper assessment is being carried out to ascertain the value of the house. Till a few months back, Kapoor served as the AIG (Vigilance) and was considered close to some top vigilance officers during the Capt Amarinder Government. Soon, after coming to power in Punjab, the AAP government had shifted him out of the Vigilance Bureau. Earlier, he had also served in Chandigarh police as DSP (Central) and SP, Jails in Amritsar. During his tenure as the Jail Superintendent in Amritsar, he got mired in a controversy involving a woman inmate lodged in the same jail. Later, she had levelled serious allegations against the AIG and a series of cases and inquiries are going on in connection with the case. Kapoor was booked on charges of rape, extortion and torture following a complaint filed by a Haryana resident Poonam Rajan. The AIG had come in contact with the lady when he joined Amritsar Central Jail as Superintendent in 2016. Kapoor, however, had denied all the charges against him. (editor@dailyworld.in)
