Broiler farmers meet organised at Vet varsity

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organised a one day interactive session with the broilers farmers associated with Independent Poultry Association (IPA).
Sanjay Sharma, President of the association, welcomed the participants and discussed the rising cost of the inputs in broiler farming. He talked about certain references in which malpractices were being done by integrated companies.
He gave the reference of the recent speech given by Sanjeev Balyan, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, about the losses of broiler farmers in spite of 6-8% growth of the industry. He wondered why integrators are flourishing and farmers are suffering.
Dr Bhupinder Singh Sandhu, Head of the Department of Veterinary Pathology, gave a presentation on Emerging Viral Diseases in Broilers. He advised the farmers to watch the symptoms of various viral diseases. Different viral diseases attack at different ages and affect different organs.
He said that postmortem of sick and dead birds is routinely done in the office hours and farmers must bring them quickly, get the treatment to be done to minimise losses. He cautioned the farmers regarding the lapses in biosecurity. Dr Parminder Singh, Professor & the coordinator of the meeting, said that boiler farmers
meet every 2nd Monday at the university.
