Bains launches training program for English teachers

category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh To further improve the English language and communication skill of the children of the state, Punjab Education Minister Mr. Harjot Singh Bains, on Monday, launched another innovative course here at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration. Mr. Bains, while thanking the US Embassy for the collaboration for this noble cause, also encouraged the participants to make best use of this opportunity. He reiterated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government was making every possible effort to provide quality education to the children of the state. In his key address, Dr. Maninder Sarkaria, Director, SCERT emphasised the vital role that teachers play in the role of the nation. Notably, two American trainers will be working with 40 English language teachers on an intensive two week program in Teaching English to Adolescents from April 17 - 29. The course is Phase-2 of an international Certificate program, funded by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S., Embassy in New Delhi, and implemented by TESOL International Association, the largest association of English language teachers in the world. Heidi Faust, Director of Special Projects for TESOL International, is leading the program, together with Dr Tamrika Khvtisiashvilli. Both have many years experience running English teacher education programs around the world. Ruth Goode, Regional English Language Officer from the U.S. Embassy spoke at the event and thanked Education Minster Mr. Harjot Singh Bains for their support and collaboration. Ms Goode explained that the U.S. Embassy funds these projects because English is a key factor in supporting students in gaining access to jobs and to higher education. (editor dailyworld.in)
