category Regional, chandigarh, , tags Regional, chandigarh, , DW BUREAU Chandigarh The Punjab police on Tuesday arrested Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Malwinder Singh Sidhu on charges of assaulting a public servant to deter him from discharge of his duty (section 353 of IPC) and under several other sections of the IPC, following a complaint filed by a DSP in the State Vigilance Bureau (VB), Mohali, sources said. The incident occurred in the Punjab VB Headquarters at Mohali where Sidhu had been summoned by the anti-corruption agency in connection with a VB enquiry. After the DSP reported the incident to his superiors, a decision was taken to call the Mohali police and register an FIR. Sidhu is presently posted as AIG (Human Rights) in the Punjab police headquarters. He is facing a vigilance probe and had been summoned by the bureau for questioning on Tuesday. Earlier also, he was summoned by the VB, however, he had not appeared before it, the sources added. (editor dailyworld.in)
