81 volunteers donate blood at PGIMER camp

Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh organized its 198th Blood Donation Camp in PGIMER wherein 81 voluntary donors donated blood for Thalassaemic and other needy patients. Jagjit Singh Star Blood Donor along with his son Avneet Singh donated Blood for 102nd time in this Camp. All blood donors were honoured with gifts and Donor Certificates. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh thanked all blood donors and Prof (Dr) Rati Ram Sharma Head of Department, Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER and his staff for the success of Blood Donation Camps.
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh is providing blood support to about 450 Thalassaemic patients from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh by arranging blood Transfusions in its Day Care Centres at PGIMER and GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Blood transfusion is a widely recommended treatment for patients of Thalassaemia to maintain optimal levels of Haemoglobin.
Trust is putting its best efforts to mobilize blood donation by organizing regular Blood Donation Camps on every Saturday since 06 June 2020 with cooperation of Blood Bank of PGIMER and GMCH. More than 1600 units of blood have been collected in these camps. Due to coronavirus, organising blood donation camps has become much more difficult. India's COVID-19 tally zoomed past 35 lakh, just a week after it crossed the 30-lakh mark, with a record single-day spike of 78,761 cases, while recoveries surged to 27,13,933 on Sunday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.The total coronavirus cases rose to 35,42,733, while the death toll climbed to 63,498 with 948 people succumbing to the diseases in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.
