category Regional, fazilka, , tags Regional, fazilka, , DW BUREAU Fazilka Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal on Monday visited border villages along the zero line to review the arrangements in place to combat the flood-like situation in the district. The situation has been created due to heavy rains in the upper parts of Punjab and a huge quantity of water coming into Satlej is expected to reach areas under the Fazilka district through the Hussainiwala headworks. The DC and Fazilka MLA Narinder Pal Singh Sawna held a meeting with the people of the border villages in Mahatam Nagar and asked them to visit relief camps established at safer places by the district administration. SSP Avneet Kaur Sidhu, ADC General Avneet Kaur, ADC Development Amit Panchal, SDM Akash Bansal were also present at this occasion. Talking to media persons at Kawan Wali Bridge, Duggal said that 55,000 cusecs of water has been released from Hussainiwala headworks and its early streams have arrived in Fazilka district. The biggest threat to be faced by the district, however, will be the water arriving from Ropar headworks and passing through Harike and Hussainiwala, that will reach Fazilka by Tuesday. She appealed to the people of the villages on the lower side of the Sutlej to go to the relief camps set up in areas of refuge. The Fazilka MLA said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is facilitating all arrangements in the relief camps and the government will leave no stone unturned to help people in this difficult time.
