41,887 children were immunized on the first day of Pulse Polio NID round out of a total target of 90037 to be achieved in three days. Remaining children will be immunized on 2nd and 3rd day in house to house activity.
Health Department, UT, Chandigarh had appealed to all the residents of the city to get their children in the age group 0- 5 years immunized preferably at the booths on the first day to achieve 100 percent coverage during the drive.
The whole activity was done under the leadership of Dr. Amandeep Kang, Director Health & Family Welfare cum Mission Director - National Health
Mission.
Approximately 454 Polio booths were set up by the Health Department in the whole city apart from deploying 10 polio teams at Transit points. The 0- 5 years old children were being vaccinated at the various booths. Approximately 100 Sector Supervisors monitored the booth activity for which approx 982 teams of vaccinators were deployed from 9 am to 4 pm.
Door to door activity under this campaign will be done on 1st and 2nd February, 2021 to ensure that all children are covered for Polio drops who could not avail the same during the
booth activity.
The highly appreciated and innovative project "Taare Zameen Par-A Night Vigil" to cover those children which are accompanied by the parents during the day time and come to halt at the various odd points of the city will also be conducted. To carry out this activity, 4 teams will be deputed from 8 pm onwards with effect from January 31 and will move around in different parts of the city where the homeless/nomads/ rag pickers/ beggars etc tend to settle down with their children in night hours including the
RaineBaseras.
Universal Immunization Programme is a flagship programme of the Prime Minister and UT Chandigarh has already achieved 100 percent coverage in Routine Immunization and 100 percent saturation in Mission Indradhanush.
