Banwarilal Purohit, Chancellor, Punjabi University and Governor of Punjab, while delivering his presidential speech at the 39th convocation of Punjabi University here today called upon the students who were awarded degrees to work for the betterment of the society.
He said that the purpose of education was to develop good character. He said that the society needed people who could work for realization of dreams cherished by freedom fighters and play a good role in nation building. The Chancellor lauded the role being played by Punjabi University in propagation of Punjabi language.
Prof. Gagandeep Kang (FRS), delivering the Convocation Address said for all graduates of Punjabi University, this is a very special occasion. It is, of course, a matter of great privilege to be from Punjabi University, only the second university in the world to be named after a language and with a mission to promote education and regional culture.
She congratulated those who received their degrees, with a special appreciation to those who have distinguished themselves and received awards and prizes. "The past two years may not have been because of the pandemic exactly what you had expected when you started on your journey of education. You have been successful; but with the uncertainty and interruptions, the path must not have been easy," she added.
Prof. Gagandeep Kang said, "I think one of the things that is important for all of us, to think about and prepare for and to plan ahead. And for that it is important to understand that there is never any way to be completely safe, no foolproof way to live life. To plan ahead, identify what is critical, what the risks and threats are and understand their impact, allows for thinking about ways of mitigation and minimising poor outcomes. If we have thought through what problems we might encounter in the future, we can also think about solutions. We remove fear by creating a path to handling what might be the dangers and risks of failures."
Prof Arvind, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, said that now when the university was coming out of financial difficulties with the help of the grants made available by the government, it was imperative for all of us to strive and work hard for improving academic standards.
