DW BUREAU / Chandigarh To commemorate World Blood Donor Day on June 14, 2021, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (Regd.), Chandigarh organised 2 blood donation camps at PGIMER, Chandigarh and Government Medical College and Hospital Sector 32, Chandigarh. Both camps were conducted under strict COVID19 guidelines and restrictions. Total 183 units of blood was collected from respected blood donors in these camps. Director Principal, faculty members of GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, Member Secretary of Trust and others observed two minutes silent prayers for all those who lost their lives due to Corona. This Trust has already organised 35 Blood donation camps since 6th June 2020 to help Blood Bank of PGIMER and GMCH Sector 32, Chandigarh to provide blood to Thalassaemics and other serious patients requiring blood support, during COVID19 lockdown period. More than 3650 units of blood was collected in these camps till June 12, 2021. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary expressed deep gratitude to the Head of Department and staff of Blood Transfusion Medicine of PGIMER and GMCH and all voluntary blood donors for their cooperation. Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is a widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust has been organising blood donation camps and serving thalassaemics since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalassemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in PGIMER and GMCH Chandigarh. (editor@dailyworld.in)
