10 Punjab-cadre IAS seek Central deputation; more likely to apply

As many as 10 IAS officers of the Punjab cadre have applied for Central deputation, some of which have recently got their appointment orders. Sources said besides 1988-batch Ravneet Kaur, 1990-batch Anirudh Tiwari, 1991-batch Seema Jain, some other officers, including 1997-batch Krishna Kumar, 1998-batch S. Karuna Raju 1999-batch Ajoy Sharma, 2000-batch Rahul Tiwari, 2009-batch Sumit Jarangal and 2011-batch Kumar Saurabh had applied for Central deputation.
Among them, two officers have received their appointment letters also. S. Karuna Rahu was recently appointed as Chief Vigilance Officer of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, while Kumar Saurabh has been posted as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Few weeks ago, 2011-batch officer, B. Srinivasan was appointed the General Manager (Food Corporation of India). KAP Sinha who is presently serving as the Financial Commissioner, Revenue, too had got a posting in the Centre, however, he had decided not to go after the State government wrote to the Central government showing its inability to send him.
As time passes, the sources said, some more officers are expected to apply for the Central deputation. "The question as to why a large number of officers, some considered very good officers, have opted for a Central deputation can only be answered by the Government," a senior bureaucrat remarked.
Presently, both Ravneet Kaur and Anirudh Tiwari are in the rank of Special Chief Secretary in the state and will be posted in the rank of Secretary in the Centre if their requests are accepted by the Government of India. Tiwari was earlier the Chief Secretary of Punjab, but after a few months of the AAP government coming to power, he was posted as Director General of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) on July 5. The government posted 1989-batch officer, V K Janjua as the Chief Secretary of the State.
Similarly, Seema Jain is serving in the rank of Additional Chief Secretary and will get the posting in the rank of Additional Chief Secretary once on central deputation. Rahul Tiwari who had applied for the Central deputation a long ago is yet to get the posting in the Centre. He was recently posted by the Punjab Government as the State's Agriculture Secretary.
The Punjab IAS officers who already are on Central deputation, include 1987-batch Vini Mahajan, Anjali Bawra, VK Singh, Alok Shekhar, RK Verma, Bhawna Garg, Shruti Singh, Kavita Singh, Priyank Bharti
and Basant Garg.
