Chandigarh Congress submits objections on delimitation process

Leaders of Chandigarh Congress filed objections to the draft notification issued by Chandigarh administration regarding the delimitation process. The notification was issued to determine the number of single member wards and extent of each ward of the Municipal area of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, for the purpose of election of Councilors.
Hamail Kesri Member AICC & General Secretary, Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee(CTCC) wrote that there is ambiguity as well as the areas mentioned are against the principle of contiguity. While raising objections, he mentioned that there are difference of voters between the wards. For Example- Voters of ward No.1 is 13080 and voters of Ward No. 15 is 27013. In ward no. 13 voters are 9242 approximate and in ward no. 26 voters are 24000 approximate and in ward no. 28 voters are near about 25000.
"In this draft notification total population is not mentioned and there is no description of SC population in wards. Time for objections given by the Chandigarh Administration (Local Government Department) is only 7 days which is very less," the objection letter reads.
He further added that there are lot of colonies/Area which are mentioned in the draft list of polling stations of Chandigarh Parliamentary constituency 2021 but not mention in the notification issued by Chandigarh Administration (Local Government Department) on 09 December, 2020 and there are lot of colonies/area which are mentioned in the notification issued by Chandigarh Administration (Local Government Department) on 09 December, 2020 but not mention in the list of polling stations of Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency, 2021. Other objections raised were about wards. Ward number 20, the area mentioned SPL Charge along with Hallomajra, Behlana is mentioned whereas SPL Charge is not defined in which context it is mentioned.Ward number 24 Nehru Colony is mentioned whereas the area is non existent as Nehru colony was rehabilitated about 6 years back, the letter reads.
Ward number 29 the sweeper colony and LVS colony both are rehabilitated and non-existent at the site and ward number 31 Kuldeep colony, Pandit colony, gwala colony an majdoor colony kajheri are nonexistent and some have been mentioned in this notification without any reason. Ward no. 32 consists of labour colony no. 5 along with sector 54 and 51, whereas colony no. 5 have been shifted in small flat Dhanas and the said labour colony no. 5 is non-existent, the letter reads.
