DW Bureau | Chandigarh: In the quiet embrace of the Shivalik foothills, where forest trails meet open skies, a new idea of luxury is taking shape. The reimagined Forest Hill Resort (FHR), located next to the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, is positioning itself as more than just a getaway—it’s pitching a “luxury wilderness lifestyle.” Spread across 2,000 acres and bordered by vast stretches of protected forest, the resort has unveiled its new clubhouse—marking a significant step in its transformation into an eco-luxury destination. But the shift is not just architectural; it reflects a broader change in how luxury is being defined.
“Today, luxury is less about opulence and more about authenticity and connection,” said Devinder Sandhu, Senior Director at FHR. “We are building a space where sustainability, wellness and refined hospitality come together as a way of life.” At the heart of this evolution is The Vańa, the resort’s new culinary space housed within a striking glass-structured clubhouse. Designed as an “estate dining” experience, the menu blends comfort with global flair—from Old Delhi-style mutton seekh and truffle dal makhani to European-inspired desserts like chocolate fondant and mille-feuille. Much of the produce comes directly from the resort’s own farms, reinforcing its farm-to-table philosophy.
Yet, dining is only one part of the experience. FHR is betting big on immersive outdoor living. With over 50 curated activities—ranging from wildlife safaris and birdwatching to horseback riding, off-roading and zip-lining—the resort encourages guests to engage deeply with the surrounding landscape. What sets the project apart is its low-impact development approach. Less than 20 per cent of the land has been used for construction, with local materials and techniques ensuring minimal ecological disruption. The rest remains dedicated to preserving flora, fauna and the natural character of the region.
The vision, however, goes beyond hospitality. FHR is in advanced discussions with global hospitality brands to introduce branded residences and expand its luxury offerings. A partnership with The Ultimate Travelling Camp (TUTC) will bring boutique wilderness cottages to the property, while future plans include villas, curated living spaces and even twin helipads for charter services.
With its proximity to Chandigarh and the promise of a gated golf estate, FHR is also targeting a new class of buyers—those seeking not just a second home, but a slower, more conscious lifestyle rooted in nature. As the definition of luxury continues to evolve, Forest Hill Resort’s bet is clear: the future may lie not in excess, but in experience—where the wild is not tamed, but thoughtfully lived alongside.
