Chandigarh, July 9 (IANS) Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu on Thursday criticised the AAP government in Punjab over the state’s deteriorating law and order situation, saying the explosion at the Sadar Police Station in Moga was evidence of the government's failure to maintain security. 

“I had already expressed this apprehension that certain forces are on the prowl to disrupt Punjab’s peace, and today’s incident has turned this fear into reality,” Bittu wrote on X.

He said, “Those who ignite the fire by merely striking a spark and slip away, the atmosphere of fear and unrest that ensued from it, the entire burden of that damage has to be borne by Punjab and Punjabis; no one else suffers any loss”.

A high alert was sounded in Moga district after an explosion rocked the police station on Wednesday, triggering panic in the area.

Officiating Senior Superintendent of Police G.S. Bains told the media that a low-intensity blast occurred and there was no casualty or no major structural damage.

Joining the issue, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal said, “The blast at Moga Sadar Police Station has once again exposed the complete collapse of law and order under the @AamAadmiParty government.

“When even police stations aren’t safe, how can common Punjabis feel secure? Attacks on police and the public continue unabated, while past incidents remain unresolved and pending. Enough is enough -- he (the Chief Minister) is pushing the state back into dark days! Punjab deserves a safe and prosperous future, not excuses and terror,” Badal wrote on X.

State Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said the explosion is a shocking reminder of the complete collapse of law and order in the state. “When even police stations are not safe, how can ordinary Punjabis feel secure? Instead of publicity and tall claims, the Chief Minister must answer why crime is becoming so brazen across Punjab. The people of Punjab deserve accountability, not excuses,” he added.
