DW BUREAU / Chandigarh A theft has taken place, at a retired army officer's house in Sector 33, this came to light a couple of days back. The thief/thieves took away diamond and gold jewellery worth a whopping Rs 25 to 30 lakh. A DDR has been lodged in the case at PS Sector 34, Chandigarh.The octogenarian ex-army officer, Lt Col Jagmohan Singh Bindra, who is 88-years-old, lives with his 80-year-old wife Lakhbir Kaur Bindra, in Sec 33, Chandigarh. It is noteworthy that the elderly couple's residence also houses a maid and her family in the servant quarters. The senior citizens didn't have a clue of the theft when it happened and the fact that a burglary had actually taken place came out just by coincidence. This happened on 27th July when the couple's son, Lt Colonel GMS Bindra (Retd), who also lives in Chandigarh with his wife, paid a visit to his parents' house. Lt Col GMS Bindra (Retd.) said, "I went to meet my parents and during a casual talk I asked my mother why she was not wearing any jewellery. Then she told me that she doesn't feel like wearing jewellery due to old age. I said that she should wear some jewellery at least and it's then that she asked me to take out her diamond bangles from the almirah. When I opened the almirah, to my utter shock I found that all the pieces of jewellery were missing from the vanity box lying inside the almirah." Bindra said that he immediately reported the matter to Sector 34 police station, from where police personnel rushed to the spot and a DDR was subsequently lodged.Bindra alleged that the house servants could be behind the burglary as they had access to all parts of the residence, cupboards and also had the knowledge of the place where the keys were kept.He claimed, "There was no forced entry.
