In view of the ongoing monsoons, Haryana Chief Secretary Keshni Anand Arora directed the officers concerned to install permanent water pumps in areas prone to flood water accumulation so as to ensure the problem of drainage does not arise in the future. This direction was given to Departments of Revenue and Disaster Management, Irrigation and Water Resources, and Water Engineering. The Chief Secretary was presiding over a meeting on preparations to prevent flood water accumulation. She further instructed the officers to ensure that there is no shortage of pumps used for draining water from any area of the state. While reviewing the steps being taken for prevention of flood water accumulation she instructed the officers to prepare a daily report on the progress of dewatering and a district-wise report on accumulation of water across the state so as to prevent loss of life and property. She said that a certificate of temporary electricity connection and on the working condition of pumps should be obtained from each district for smooth functioning.
Taking proactive measures so as to ensure timely updation of sudden flush of water in rivers across the state the Chief Secretary asked the officers to prepare a consolidated reporting system to ensure regular updates for timely intimation regarding the flow of Ghaggar, Yamuna and Som Rivers.She further added that it should be ensured that the pumping set is in working condition along with the upkeep of sewerage and drain pipes. The Chief Secretary said that the Yamunanagar region is expected to receive heavy water flow from the hilly areas of Himachal and Uttarakhand during the monsoon, so as a precautionary measure State Disaster Relief Team should be sent to Yamunanagar as per practice. In addition, availability of boats, divers, and swimmers should be ensured so that all facilities are available without delay in case of any emergency.
