PGI Director Prof Jagat Ram, DUI Prof Shankarji Jha, and UIPS Chairperson Prof Kanwaljit Chopra awarding degrees to pass out students at annual convocation at PU in Chandigarh on Thursday

The faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized the Panjab University

Pharmaceutical Sciences Convocation, wherein successful graduate and postgraduate students of 2016-17 batch were awarded degrees by the Chief Guest, Professor Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Professor Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions (DUI), Panjab University.

Professor Kanwaljit Chopra, Chairperson, UIPS initiated the ceremony by welcoming the chief guest, Professor Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER. This was followed by a peek into the illustrious 74 years of the Institute starting from its pre-independence beginning in the year 1944 in Lahore as Department of Pharmacy.

Professor Shankarji Jha, DUI addressed the audience and the young pharmacy graduates illustrating upon the glorious tradition of Vedic Dikshant and highlighted how transformation from Vedas has taken place subsequently.

Professor Jagat Ram congratulated the successful candidates who were awarded the degree on this fourth Pharma convocation and elaborated upon the genesis of Pharmacy as a profession apart from Medicine.

He highlighted the involvement of UIPS in clinical care. He emphasized the importance of best ethical practices and honest conduct to the young professionals. He urged the students to take a pledge for working honestly and inquisitively for service of humanity and quoted, “Harder I work, Luckier I get.”

He concluded his talk on a very positive note conveying that PGIMER was open for any collaboration with UIPS in the area of clinical research in any department.

Professor Manoj Kumar, Dean, Pharmaceutical Sciences, administered the oath for code of Pharmaceutical ethics to the graduating students and presented the pass outs of B.Pharm and M.Pharm to the chief guest and DUI for degrees award ceremony.
