86 donated blood at 206th Blood Donation Camp by Thalassemic Charitable Trust at PGIMER


DW BUREAU / chandigarh Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh in pursuit to mobilize maximum number of blood donations for Thalassaemics and other serious patients, organised its 206th Blood Donation Camp in PGIMER, Chandigarh on November 21, 2020. In this camp 86 units of blood were collected from honoured voluntary blood donors. In previous 23 Blood Donation Camps organised by this Trust, since June 6, 2020, more than 2040 units of blood have been collected. The Trust has supported about 450 Thalassaemics in PGIMER and GMCH Chandigarh since 1985 for blood transfusions and free medicines for the poor Thalassaemics. Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anaemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is a widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Haemoglobin level. Shri Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh thanked all blood donors, Prof.(Dr.) Rati Ram Sharma, Head, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine PGIMER, Chandigarh and his team for success of this Camp by observing social distancing and other COVID19 precautions. The next Blood Donation Camp by the Trust will be organized on November 28 at Blood Donation Complex, Advance Trauma Center, PGIMER, Chandigarh from 1000 to 1530 hours. (editor@dailyworld.in)
