Anil Vij urges MLAs to join hands to curb drug abuse


DW BUREAU / CHANDIGARH Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that no person would be spared if found involved in illegal activities by the present State Government and the State Government will continue to take necessary measures to prevent illegal activities in the state. Apart from this, Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) set up in August 2020 has imparted training to the Investigating Officers of all districts Anti-Narcotics Cells (ANC) as well as Investigating Officers of the Bureau regarding seizure of property of culprits under NDPS Act and PIT NDPS Act. As a result of which, properties worth Rs. 25,09,21,300.48 have been attached and seizure of property worth Rs. 6,82,94,967.89 is under process, added Sh. Vij. Vij was responding to a calling attention motion moved during the on-going Monsoon Session in the Vidhan Sabha here today. While urging all the members in the House of Vidhan Sabha here today, Sh. Vij said, "Join hands, we will walk together to prevent drug abuse in the state". Vij said that the State Government is aware of the problem of drug trafficking and drug abuse in the State and the Government is addressing the problem with a three-pronged strategy, which includes reduction in the supply of narcotic substances, illicit drugs, dependent on drug Management, treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts and drug abuse prevention/demand reduction. Vij informed that in the year 2020, Haryana Police registered 2982 cases under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 4477 persons and recovered 221.672 kg of Opium, 230.764 Kg of Charas, 12725.672 Kg of Poppy Husk, 8641.6 kg of Ganja, 35.9935 kg of Heroin, 1.10 gms of Cocaine, 1297485tablets and 206970 capsules. During 2021 the Haryana Police registered 2745 cases under NDPS act, arrested 3975 persons and recovered 345.496 kg of Opium, 157.259 kg of Charas, 8550.077 kg of Poppy Husk, 11368.07 kg of Ganja, 29.13586 kg of Heroin, 1304530 tablets and 45280 capsules. He informed that in this calendar year up to August 2 the State Police has registered 2334 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 3209 persons and recovered 181.287 kg of Opium, 145.093 Kg of Charas, 7435.38 Kg of Poppy Husk, 10193.482 kg of Ganja, 20.311436 kg of Heroin, 13 gms of Cocaine, 27.236 gms of MDMA, 427920.54 tablets and 271769 capsules. Sh. Vij said that in the case related to seizure of 12.790 kg Ganja in District Sonipat, detailed investigation is being carried out in case FIR No. 406 dated 18.07.2022 u/s 20 NDPS Act Police Station, City Sonipat. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the drug had been brought to Sonipat by train and gave details of the handler residing in Sadar Bazar of Delhi. Raids are being conducted to arrest the other accused persons. It is worth mentioning that in the second case relating to FIR No. 351 dated 17.05.2022 u/s 20, 29 NDPS Act, Police Station City Hansi, 101.70 Kg Ganja was seized on the basis of secret information received by Haryana Police. The investigation has revealed that consignment of this illicit contraband came to Haryana from Odisha by road traversing through many states. The main supplier accused has already been arrested from Odisha on May 23, 2022. The accused 5 who had been able to evade other State Police forces, were intercepted and arrested by Haryana Police. A few deaths may have occurred due to drug overdose/ misuse. Investigations in all such matters are underway and reports of FSL, final medical opinion regarding cause of mortality etc., are awaited to conclusively ascertain the actual reason of death in such incidents.
