DW BUREAU / Chandigarh A seven-day orientation programme for NSS Programme Officers was concluded at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, on Thursday. The training programme was organized by ETI/IDC, sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Over 40 participants from the senior secondary schools, colleges and universities, across the districts, including Moga, Ferozepur, Patiala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala and SAS Nagar, participated in the seven-day course. Dr KS Sidhu, deputy director, youth services, Punjab, threw a light on the different schemes and awards by the ministry of youth affairs and sports, Government of India for the NSS volunteers as well as programme officers, while Prof Daleep Singh Thakur, NSS Coordinator (Schools) Himachal Pradesh, discussed the audit and accounts and record management for the NSS. Dr Tarlok Singh, Dean Admin, stated how a NSS Programme Officer can be a role model for the student as well as for the community by molding their behavior and attitude. They can inculcate the concept of personality development and positive attitude among the NSS volunteers. "The programme officer can play a great role to prevent the youth from digression, deviances and negative roles by giving a personal attention to their conduct and behavior," says Dr Tarlok Singh. Assistant Sub Inspector (Retd) made the participants aware about the road safety measures, different signs and symbols while driving on roads and highways, different types of penalties while violating the traffic rules. First Aid training by the master trainer of Red Cross Society, Patiala, was imparted to the participants. Programme officers took keen interest and had firsthand experience on this issue. Themes under the manual defined by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports completed during the orientation course. (editor@dailyworld.in)
