DW BUREAU / PATIALA A workshop on "Gender Equality in the Contemporary World" was held from November 25 to 27 in association with "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" Mission. A total of 100 students participated in this workshop. The Kamla Bhasin Memorial Workshop on Gender Sensitivity was organized at University College, Ghanaur, in collaboration with Jago Ri Group. Famous Bharat Natyam dancer Navtej Johar, in his presidential address, said that the desire for equality is in all of us and we want this equality to be present in the society too. Students were sensitized through the politics of love, the concept of love and crime, body, gender, rape, gender and related laws, through songs and posters. The workshop also provided training on making posters related to gender equality and violence against women. Various student groups participated in the contest and presented their posters and slogans. On this occasion workshop convener Dr. Teginder said that this workshop provided the students with the necessary language to understand and discuss the neglected and taboo topics related to gender so that they could be more aware about themselves and the society. Khadija Farooqi and Zarina, who conducted the workshop on behalf of Jago Ri Group, said that the participants were made aware about different aspects of love and violence. In-charge of the college Dr. Naina Sharma said that such workshops build capacity of the students to deal with gender issues of the contemporary world. At the farewell function, Dr. Ritu Lehal, Director, Women's Studies Centre, apprised the students about the low percentage of women in administrative positions. DSP Neha Aggarwal asked the girls to overcome their fears. Dr. Ravi read the report of the workshop in valedictory session. Assistant Professor Chetna Balkar Sidhu conducted the stage. Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Deepti Bansal, Dr. Ravinder Ghuman from the college and Amandeep Kaur from Punjabi University were also present. (editor@dailyworld.in)
