Week-long national workshop on IPR at RGNUL


DW BUREAU / PATIALA Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab in collaboration with Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce, held one-week workshop on "Intellectual Property Rights: Relevance and Importance in the Global Era". The workshop was organized with the objective of raising awareness on the issues related to intellectual property. It focused on violations of IPR and identified strategies to address these issues. Developing innovative responses and best practices for prevention of violation of intellectual property rights were also discussed. The deliberations also included recommendations, concrete proposals for elimination of crime related to intellectual property. Additionally, emerging trends in intellectual property were also discussed. Over 240 participants attended the workshop. Expert for the first session, N. Subramanian, Assistant Manager, CIPAM, New Delhi, spoke on the topic "Intellectual Property Rights: An Introduction". In the second session, Lohita Sujeeth, Sr. Director, Copyright and Digital Economy Motion Pictures Association, Mumbai, deliberated on the topic "Enforcement of Protection of Copyright Laws in the Digital Era and Challenges". She discussed the intricacies of enforcing copyrights and challenges in the digital times. Prof. Naresh Vats, Registrar, RGNUL, in the third session reflected on "Jurisdictional issues regarding IPR". The fourth session speaker, Shivakumar R dwelt on "Patentability Criteria with Case laws". Gaurav Gogia, Principal Associate, United IPR, New Delhi, delivered "Discourse of the Trademark Law". The last session of the workshop was addressed by Saurabh Vashisth, Partner at KS Partners, New Delhi. He dealt with "Emerging trends in IPR with Relevance to Artificial Intelligence". He discussed IP rights in Artificial Intelligence. He assessed and gauged the existing legal framework to grant artificial intelligence IP rights. (editor@dailyworld.in)
