Sukhbir

DW BUREAU / GURDASPUR Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today said factionalism in the Punjab Congress was costing the people dear with all senior Congressmen having formed their own groups making chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi totally ineffective. Talking to media persons here after addressing a number of programmes with senior leader Gurbachan Singh Babbehali here, the SAD President said the Congress party was now divided into groups including the Sukhjinder Randhawa group, Tript Rajinder Bajwa group, Sunil Jakhar group and the Charanjit Channi group. "On top of these you have Pradesh Congress President Navjot Sidhu whom no one recognizes as the boss. In such a situation there can be no governance and this is why the chief minister is limited to making announcements only with not a single rupee being released to give any relief to the people". Stating that the Punjab Congress and its chief minister could not fool people for long, Sukhbir Badal said "the chief minister has made promises worth Rs 15,000 crore in a little over one month but no money has been allocated to fulfill them". He said the government also needed Rs 2,400 crore to clear the SC scholarship scheme backlog and Rs 550 crore were to be paid to the landless labourers. Later during his interaction with the district bar association, Badal said the next SAD-BSP government would form a Lawyers' Development Board to fast track infra facilities and work for betterment of the legal community. He said the SAD was committed to the welfare of lawyers and would continue to fulfill all their demands including establishment of their chambers like it did earlier. Earlier Youth Akali Dal (YAD) and SOI volunteers gave a warm welcome to the party president. Led by hundreds of motorcyclists, Badal participated in a massive road show in Gurdaspur city. Accompanied by party candidate Gurbachan Singh Babbehali, he also walked through the city markets, where shopkeepers showered him with flowers besides garlanding him profusely. While interacting with masses in the market, the party president tasted some local dishes also.
