Youth Day: Div Commissioner leads awareness march


DW BUREAU / PATIALA: On the occasion of International Youth Day, the Patiala district administration today organized an awareness march from the circuit house to the Central State Library under the leadership of Chander Gaind, Divisional Commissioner. Meanwhile, participants collected plastic and other scattered material from the road under 'My Garbage - My Responsibility'. In addition to the march, a drawing competition, debate, games and decorative items by making use of useless items for school children was also held at the Central State Library. Gaind informed the youth, gathered on this occasion, about the theme of the International Youth Day, announced by the United Nations. He said, this year's theme is "Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health. Exhorting the youth, he said that as they have a significant contribution to nation building, we should take care of our health by taking healthy food only as well as ensuring cleanliness in our surroundings to make the environment non-polluted. We should adopt good habits of food as well as living style, he added. The Divisional Commissioner said that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had launched the Mission Tandrust Punjab to make the youth of the state drug free and healthy. Applauding the efforts made by ADC (D) Preeti Yadav to organize the event at the Central State Library in to engage the youth in good eating habits, sports and hygiene campaigns as well as to motivate the students to study and read books, Chander Gaind said that depleting ground water was a matter of grave concern, therefore the youth, especially the students should be more active in saving the ground water, to save the flora and fauna. Meanwhile, Manpreet Kaur, Arman, Chunni Kumari, Dev and Navya were declared winners in the quiz competitions. On this occasion, special students of Half Way Home, Rajpura exhibited their artefacts including R-SETI products. Taekwondo coach Sukhwinder Singh's students showcased the taekwondo and boxing activities. The Divisional Commissioner Chander Gaind, and ADC Dr. Preeti Yadav honored the students. Apart from this, seedballs prepared by the Horticulture Department were planted in the library complex by Commissioner Chander Gaind, ADC (D) Dr Preeti Yadav, Gautam Jain, Ankurjeet Singh and AC (UT) Chandrajyoti Singh. Lastly, Dr. Naina gave a talk on Mental Health Awareness and Care during Covid-19. (
