DW BUREAU / PATIALA The Advanced Photonics and Optical Networking (APON) Research lab was inaugurated by Prof Arvind, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Prof Arvind congratulated the department for their work being carried out in the research field. Dr Simranjit Singh, Principal Investigator of APON, introduced the APON lab and its members. Dr Singh mentioned that in APON 2 projects of around Rs 70 lakh funded by SERB and AISTIC were going on. As nodal officer of Visvesvaraya PhD scheme, he had brought Rs 1.1 crore in the university. One project of around Rs 93 lakh is accepted under RUSA grant. Recently, Dr Singh has submitted a project of around Rs 37 lakh to the CRG scheme of SERB. In APON, 7 PhD candidates are doing their PhDs and one has been completed. Dr Manjit Singh Bhamrah formally welcomed the chief guest and the present members. He appreciated the hard work of Dr Simranjit Singh and other faculty members for getting research grants from different funding agencies. Dr Balvir Singh Sandhu, Dean Academics, Dr Gurdeep Singh Batra, Dean Research, Dr Manjeet Singh Patterh, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Dr Manjit Singh Bhamrah, Head ECE, Dr Gurmeet Kaur, Professor.
