Daily World/Chandigarh:

Leading city lawyer and human rights activist Utsav Bains has called for the suspension of the DIG of police Rajshree Singh heading the Special Investigation Team on the Murthal Gangrape Case in Haryana. This incident is reported to have taken place near the National Capital during the Jat Reservation Agitation in February.

Speaking to the media Bains has said that he had taken the DIG to record the statement of a key witness Bobby Joshi on the issue and the DIG had recorded his statement, but had not revealed all the facts to the honourable court. As such she should be removed as the sitting head of the SIT on the case.

Bains has accused the DIG of professional misconduct and said that she should be asked to go as the SIT head. He said it is only now that the court has pulled up the state that they have lodged an FIR in the Murthal gangrape case.

Bobby Joshi who runs a tour and travel business in Delhi had stated that he was on his way to Delhi from Ludhiana when he reached Murthal on the intervening night on February 20-21. Joshi has claimed before the media that he had witnessed mobs rioting and setting vehicles on fire and even saw a woman being hit in the back by a sharp edged weapon.

He reportedly claimed that he had seen a mob smash the windscreen of a car in front of him and loot the woman inside of her mobile and jewellery. Later a vehicle of passengers from Himachal had claimed that they had been stopped and their women passengers dragged out by the mob on the highway.
Following directions from the High Court the Haryana police have finally registered an FIR against unknown persons for rioting, looting and robbery and kidnapping and molestation during the Jat Reservation Agitation in Murthal in February.
