Chandigarh’s Home Secy chairs meeting; Director (Tourism) calls upon citizenry to make the event a grand success

A year after the City Beautiful got its very first international class full marathon run in the form of Daily World Marathon in which around 5,000 people from different parts of the world participated, the newspaper in association with the Chandigarh Administration is again organising a Full Marathon Run for the promotion of health and national integration on April 8, 2018. Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shri V P Singh Badnore will be the Chief Guest at the second edition of the Daily World Marathon to be held at the Capitol Complex here.
A meeting in this regard was held here under the chairmanship of UT Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal on Wednesday to work out the modalities and make the event a grand success.
Launching the 2nd Edition of the Daily World Marathon at a press conference, Chandigarh’s Director (Tourism) and Municipal Commissioner Jitender Yadav called upon the citizenry to participate in the event in large numbers and make it a grand success. He said that the Chandigarh Administration will be making every effort to ensure the success of the upcoming event. He specially requested the media to inform its readers about the route and timings of the runs event so that they could encourage and cheer the runners since such events should have maximum peoples’ participation. This Marathon event will include chip timed full Marathon of 42 KM, Half Marathon of 21 KM and 10 KM runs besides a 5 KM fun run / jog / walk event. A special feature of the show is the free registration of participants from the defence and para-military forces. All the events will start and finish at the Capitol Complex, Chandigarh and will consist of a single to and fro track without multiple looping. There are attractive cash prizes of over Rs 12 lakhs for the winners in the open and other age categories.
Giving details, Daily World Chief Executive Officer Shri H S Gujral said that all participants would receive T shirts, attractive medals, certificates and refreshments, water and energy drinks. Besides, there would be over 800 well-oriented and trained crew of volunteers to assist the participants and ensure a smooth and enjoyable event for all. The Marathon event is expected to attract thousands of runners from across the world as was the case last year while several dignitaries, including top IAS and IPS officers from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to participate in the event.
Shri Gujral informed that the renowned international class Marathon runner Mr Stephan van der Merwe of South Africa who had run 10 Ultra Marathons. 12 full Marathons and over 90 half Marathons had been appointed as the Race Director to ensure its seamless and technically perfect execution.
