Shivpal, ministers get back posts in patch-up
DW Bureau / lucknow:┬áA brewing rift in the Samjwadi partyÔÇÖs first family ended when the oufitÔÇÖs supremo and family patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav brokered a peace formula on Friday.
Under the dealÔÇÖs main highlights, his brother Shivpal takes back his resignation from the Akhilesh government and remains partyÔÇÖs state president ; gets back divested portfolios; sacked ministers Gayatri Prasad Prajapati and Raj Kishore Singh will be reinstated, all to work together for fast approaching polls.
MulayamÔÇÖs peace overtures could not be spurned by estranged family members who agreed to pull down the curtains on the six-day-long high voltage political drama. The situation had deteriorated late last night with ShivpalÔÇÖs resignation from the government and sloganeering by emerging warring camps had started outside the party state headquarters and top SP leadersÔÇÖ residence this morning.
Mulayam on Friday said there can be no division in the party till he is there, a day after the dramatic resignation from Cabinet and party posts by his brother Shivpal.
Addressing party men here, Mulayam said his son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will not defy his words and announced that sacked mining minister Gayatri Prajapati will be taken back in the UP Cabinet, considered a bone of contention between Shivpal and Akhilesh.
ÔÇ£There can be no division in the party, till I am there,ÔÇØ said Mulayam, who has been attempting to broker a truce between his son and brother.
ÔÇ£We have a big family, differences may occur… There is no fight between Shivpal Yadav and Akhilesh,ÔÇØ the Samjwadi Party supremo asserted while addressing party men, adding that Akhilesh will meet Shivpal at his residence.
The SP supremo said it was election time and all should come together to work unitedly. ÔÇ£There is no fight among Ramgopal, Akhilesh and Shivpal,ÔÇØ he told reporters as slogans in favour of Shivpal drowned his remarks.
As the crisis threatened to cast a shadow over the SPÔÇÖs prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections, Mulayam sought to downplay the developments saying, ÔÇ£Every father and son faces issues….There is no rift.ÔÇØ Mulayam, however, said that there is ÔÇ£fault of our people as well who spoke to mediaÔÇØ and added that some people created confusion that there was rift in the party.
ÔÇ£Samajwadi Party is a family. There are no differences in the party,ÔÇØ he said.
