Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal urged Union Ministries of Home Affairs and Housing and Urban Affairs for the setting up of a statutory empowered Board or Authority to facilitate development of regional infrastructure and to meet the growing aspirations of the residents of Tri-city
of Panchkula, Mohali and Chandigarh and also for ensuring effective coordination on the pattern of NCR Planning Board.
Mr Manohar Lal was speaking at 29th meeting of the Northern Zonal Council organized here today.
Union Home Minister, Mr Amit Shah, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Mr Satya Pal Malik, Punjab Governor and Administrator of UT Chandigarh Mr V.P. Singh Badnore, Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Rajasthan Chief Minister, Mr Ashok Gehlot, Himachal Cheif Minister Mr Jai Ram Thakur, Lt. Governor of Delhi, Mr Anil Baijal, Haryana Finance Minister Capt. Abhimanyu, Agriculture and Farmers’Welfare Minister Mr O.P Dhankar and Miniser of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Mr Krishan Kumar were also present in the meeting.
While welcoming Mr Amit Shah in Chandigarh, Mr Manohar Lal said that there is a clear need for having an institutional arrangement for enhancing mutual coordination on various issues and the most critical of these is responding to the growing urban character and meeting the growing aspirations of the residents of Tri-city.
The Chief Minister said that though Haryana is relatively a small State, yet it makes significant contributions to the Indian economy. He said that our per capita income of Rs 2,26,644 is the highest among all the big States. In terms of economic growth rate, the State ranked as the third fastest growing State of the country. “Apart from this, we are at the fifth rank both in order of exports from India and in GST collections. Haryana is fourth in India in issuance of E-way bills and it tops in the rankings of Ease of Doing Business in North India and stands third in the country”, he added.
While describing Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal as the lifeline of Haryana, he said that Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for Renuka and Lakhwar-Vyasi dams on river Yamuna and its tributaries have been signed. For this, he thanked the Government of India and the State Governments.
